Vancouver, July 13: The 10-day strike by port workers on the west coast of Canada has started getting international support. The 7400 workers loading and unloading at 39 small and big ports of the west coast are on ‘strike’, due to which hundreds of cargo-laden ships are standing shoulder to shoulder for several days. The US West Coast Port Workers Union has stopped shipping goods to and from Canada. Port workers’ unions in many countries, including New Zealand and Australia, have come out in support of the striking workers. Due to the efforts made by some contractors to iron out the use of robots, there is a danger of increasing tension due to the tussle between the two parties. Traders are also surprised and worried because the government is not showing any seriousness to end the strike. There is a danger of damage to the goods loaded on the ‘planes’. On the other hand, the local producers of Canada are also worried. Willie Adams, president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, dismissed claims by airline companies that they were moving the ships to Tacoma, Seattle and US West Coast ports.
