Milton MPP Parm Gill has made the decision to step down from Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet and relinquish his seat at Queen’s Park, with the intention of returning to the House of Commons.

The minister of Red Tape Reduction announced his resignation on the social media platform X on Thursday evening, stating that he made this decision after consulting with his family.

“Lately, I have received numerous requests from members of our community, encouraging me to join Pierre Poilievre’s team and carry on serving the people of Milton at the federal level,” Gill expressed. “I am driven to advocate for the constituents of Milton by joining Pierre Poilievre’s practical Conservative team in their mission to defeat Justin Trudeau’s expensive Liberal-NDP coalition.”

Gill was elected to the provincial legislature in 2018 and held the position of provincial minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.

“I feel honored to have served as the Minister of Red Tape Reduction and previously as the Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. In a statement, the MPP expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the representative for the dedicated residents of Milton in the Ontario Legislature.

“I am grateful to Premier Ford for his trust in me and for supporting me in serving Milton and our wonderful province.”

Prior to his time at Queen’s Park, Gill served as a member of Parliament representing the former federal riding of Brampton-Springdale, affiliated with the Conservative party. He held the position of parliamentary secretary to the Minister of International Trade and Minister of Veteran Affairs.
