The City of Brampton is aware of the Toronto Star’s online article published on October 9, 2025, regarding 175 Sandalwood Pkwy W. The article contains multiple factual inaccuracies, which the City has requested be corrected. The City remains committed to transparency, accountability and accuracy in all communications related to this acquisition and the facility’s approved uses.
The property at 175 Sandalwood Parkway West functions as a community-serving operations hub featuring a mixed-use facility, with approximately 40% dedicated to office space and the remainder to industrial and warehouse use. In addition to supporting the City’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program, the facility provides space for essential City services, including recreation, elections, information technology and fleet storage. Located across from the City’s Transit facility and Public Works Yard, the site’s storage yard is planned to accommodate Transit and Public Works vehicles in the future. The City also plans to explore opportunities to use the green space for future recreational purposes.
This purchase was unanimously approved by Council in September 2023, completed in accordance with all City policies and publicly disclosed.
The property acquisition was considered by Council in closed session pursuant to Section 239(2)(c) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as it related to proposed acquisition of land by the municipality and to preserve the City’s negotiating position. As the transaction is complete and there are no longer commercial reasons to keep the real estate transaction confidential, the information is no longer subject to any active exemptions. The Mayor is authorizing the release of three closed session reports on this matter from September 13, 2023; September 20, 2023; and September 29, 2023. These reports address the several factual inaccuracies noted, and the Mayoral decision supports the provincial priorities established under the Strong Mayors, Building Homes Act, 2022, by advancing the efficient delivery of municipal infrastructure and operational capacity necessary to support housing growth and community safety initiatives, including the City’s Automated Speed Enforcement Processing Centre.
Two independent appraisals (one from the seller and one from the City) and a third-party review of the seller’s appraisal confirm that the acquisition price was consistent with market value at the time of purchase. The City’s mandated broker conveyed to the City that the seller was in receipt of a previous offer from a third party, a scenario that created a competitive dynamic in the purchasing process.
At this time, several departments and more than 100 City staff operate from the site with plans underway to welcome additional staff as part of the City’s full return to office in January 2026. The facility is being prepared to accommodate the following functions:
Fleet Parking
Municipal Elections Office – 12 current staff, with training planned for approximately 2,000 election workers in 2026
Recreation Division – 58 current staff
Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) – 35 current staff
Information Technology Division – approximately 120 staff between 2026–2027
