A family loss or tragedy can take place at any time. On Saturday, April 16, 2011 at approximately 2:50 pm, the Kearn family experienced that loss first hand.
Kearn’s family was devastated by his senseless death. Not a day has gone by where his loss has not been felt by his family. By supporting each other and remembering the joy that Kearn brought into their lives, they have been able to get through the endless days, months and years without him.
Kearn Nedd was taking part in a poker tournament at an establishment in the City of Brampton. At this time, a group of men entered the establishment and made a demand for money. While one of the victims was being struck with a gun, Kearn Nedd intervened, was shot and died later that day.
On April 12, 2012, investigators from the Peel Regional Police Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau arrested five people in relation to Kearn Nedd’s death. The investigation was overseen by a core group of homicide investigators with the assistance of uniform personnel and criminal investigators region wide. All five arrested parties were prosecuted for the homicide.
In the summer of 2018, Canada Post created a variety of designed stamps honouring the work done by police officers, firefighters and paramedics. Of these, the Police Officer stamp was unveiled in the nation’s capital.
Once the stamp became available, one of Kearn’s family members, who was employed by Canada Post, connected with Peel Police to recognize and thank the officers involved in solving Kearn’s murder. The family member presented the investigators with a portrait of the Police stamp.
