Brampton, ON Ward 1 (February 14, 2020) This morning, Wards 1 & 5 Regional Councillors Rowena Santos and Paul Vicente, Brampton Fire Chief Boyes, and Peel Regional Police Superintendent Sean Mckenna gathered with local residents for the unveiling of the notice sign to introduce Ward 1’s first-ever Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) in Community Safety Zone on Vodden St. East between Ken Whillans Drive and Kennedy Road.

ASE is an automated system that uses a camera and a speed measurement device to help reduce speed in identified areas (school zones and community safety zones across Ontario). ASE captures and records images of vehicles traveling in excess of the posted limit. The implementation of ASE across the province focuses on increasing safety and comfort for local communities, particularly for more vulnerable road users, like seniors and children.

The ASE Program supports Brampton’s Healthy and Safe City: Streets for People Term of Council Priority, which incorporates elements of Vision Zero, a regional plan that aims to increase road safety through changes to road design, maintenance and operation, and increased public awareness.

  • Mayor Patrick Brown Said, “We have zero tolerance for speeding in Brampton. Automated Speed Enforcement is one of many ways we are working towards reduced vehicle incidents and increased safety in our communities, especially in school zones. I look forward to continuing our work in implementing calming traffic measures.”

-Regional Councillor Paul Vicente, Wards 1 & 5, said, “Residents have asked us for REAL solutions to reduce speeding on our roads. Leveraging camera technology is an effective way to enforce speeds while allowing Police to focus on other community safety priorities.”

-Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Wards 1 & 5, said, “Addressing speeding and traffic calming measures, especially in community safety zones, are a priority. We believe that implementing ideas proven by data, evidence, and research such as automated speed enforcement cameras will provide the permanent solutions that will have an impact on speeding in our community.”

When I talk to Peel Regional Police Superintendent Sean Mckenna that most of the people think it’s Automated Speeding Cameras are only it’s for a money grab but does not much affect the speeders, he’s said, agree! Cities make money, but if someone got the ticket ones, twice, the third-time drive will learn the lesion and naturally drive according to the speed limit and traffic on the road.
