A “Health Care Hero” has stepped up to make a major donation to Brampton’s biggest hospital. Last week, local oil company BVD Petroleum announced that it had made a $100,000 donation to the Osler Foundation to support the Health Care Heroes campaign, which supports efforts to help staff and physicians during the COVID- 19 pandemic. Members of the family-owned and operated business were on-hand alongside Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown last week to donate the cheque to Osler, while recognizing the work done by staff and doctors during the ongoing pandemic.
“During this time, it is our duty to contribute whatever we can to help our health care heroes,” said BVD’s president, Bikram Dhillon, last week. “They are putting their lives at risk to look after people and it becomes our dire responsibility to look after them as well. I encourage other people in the community to contribute whatever they can because every penny counts.” The foundation has set a $2.5 million fundraising goal to support the campaign, which will go towards purchasing critical equipment (such as ventilators, stretchers, thermometers and vital signs monitors) to help patients.
“Now more than ever, our community must come together and support our health care workers and our hospitals,” said Osler Foundation CEO Ken Mayhew. “Donations, such as the one made by BVD Petroleum, help give our frontline workers the tools they will need to save lives.” Every donation that is made during the campaign will be matched dollar for dollar by Martha Rogers, chair of The Rogers Foundation, up to $500,000.
