Thursday, July 1 will mark Canada’s 154th birthday – and while many activities have moved to online events, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate in Peel Region.

While provincial restrictions for mass gatherings remain in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several municipalities will be hosting online events throughout the day. Residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon can visit any of the region’s many parks and public spaces, enjoy food on a patio or at a restaurant, or sightsee at numerous attractions throughout all three municipalities, before concluding with online fireworks celebrations held at 10 p.m. (Caledon) While in-person events won’t be conducted this year due to COVID-19, residents can purchase and shoot fireworks on their own property, as Canada Day is recognized as one of four holidays throughout the year where public fireworks are permitted (within safety guidelines).

For more information, visit www.caledon.ca.

(Brampton) Virtual events and entertainment will play a key theme in Brampton this year, with the City of Brampton running an assortment of events on their website (brampton.ca), beginning at 8 a.m. Residents can also participate in a Canada Pride at home decorating contest and pick up a lawn sign featuring a Canadian Flag promoting civic pride. For more information,

visit the Brampton Canada Day page at brampton.ca/EN/ Arts Culture- Tourism/Festivals-and-Events/ Pages/Canada- Day.aspx.

At 6 p.m., the city will host a virtual concert on the Brampton.ca website, hosted by Daniel Pillai and featuring a national anthem performed by local star Roberta Battaglia and performances by Twin Flames, askew & Tom Wilson and four-time Juno award-winning rock and roll band The Sheepdogs. A limited-attendance drive-in firework show will also be hosted at the CAA Centre (7575 Kennedy Road South), beginning at 10 p.m. Space and tickets are limited for the 10-minute live firework show.

Residents can register for a general admission free ticket through The Rose website at tickets.brampton.ca. The show will also be livestreamed on the City of Brampton website. (Mississauga) Virtual ceremonies will once again be a focus for this year’s festivities, with an online ceremony planned to begin on the City of Mississauga website (www.mississauga.ca) at 11 a.m. Residents can mark and reflect on the nation’s 154th birthday during the online event, which will be co-hosted by Global News and Entertainment Tonight Canada, and will include performances, remembrances, special greetings and much more.

From June 25 – July 24, the city will also host self guided events at Mississauga Celebration Square (300 City Centre Drive), including We Can Dance (12 – 8 p.m.), a popup dance studio, where visitors are invited to step onto the floor to follow along with a choreographer and perform a series of dance moves. Each dancer will be added to a never-ending onscreen dance party at the Square. Fireworks will not be hosted at Celebration Square this year due to current provincial restrictions, though as one of four recognized holidays during the year, residents are permitted to utilize fireworks on their own property, with respecting current COVID-19 restrictions and firework safety by-laws in mind.

A virtual Canada Day Fireworks display will air on the City of Mississauga website at 10 p.m. The Malton BIA will be handing out Canada Day flags to display in local business with a flyer to direct people to the online events all across the City. Visit @Malton- BIA on Twitter and @malton.bia on Instagram to participate in Canada Day trivia, and to stay up-to date on the different events that will be broadcast from start to finale. The annual Port Credit Canada Day festivities have been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 11, with Paint the Town Red’s “A Thanksgiving to Remember.”

The village will celebrate the move with entertainment, fireworks, activities and much more, as well as the unveiling of a Memorial tribute; an opportunity for remembrance for those who lost loved ones during the pandemic. Visit paintthetownred.ca for more details.

In Streetsville, LED trucks will be travelling around the village all day on July 1, featuring different acts and entertainment as part of a pre-recorded event. The entire Streetsville Virtual Canada Day event will be available to watch via a stream on the Streetsville BIA Facebook page.

Churchill Meadows’ annual Canada Day TogetherFest has been cancelled —

visit canadadaytogether.ca for additional news and updates. * All fireworks displays are weather permitting.
