Chandigarh | Jagran News Desk: Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party is heading towards a historic clean sweep win in Punjab with the party leading on 89 seats of the total 117 assembly segments in the state. AAP has so far received 42.1 per cent of votes, as per the data on the official website of the Election Commission. Meanwhile, Congress, the ruling party in Punjab, has so far managed to only get 23.3 per cent of vote share with the party trailing in 16 seats of the total. Several bigwigs of Punjab politics including SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and Punjab Lok Congress chief and former CM Capt Amarinder Singh were trailing on their respective seats.

The early trends indicated that the ruling Congress has been decimated in Punjab while the SAD, which contested the polls in alliance with the BSP, has failed to make much impact. Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and a majority of his ministers were trailing. As the trends started showing a clear lead to AAP, which made an impact in all the three regions — Malwa, Majha and Doaba — party workers burst into celebrations.
