BRAMPTON, ON (October 10, 2025) – Today, Mayor Patrick Brown, Regional Councillor Rowena Santos and artist Christiano De Araujo, with the support of the Fox Family, including Terry Fox’s niece Jessie Alder, unveiled a memorial public artwork honouring the life, courage, and enduring legacy of Terry Fox. The installation at the Terry Fox Stadium at Chinguacousy Park marks the 45th anniversary of his Marathon of Hope and celebrates his extraordinary contributions to cancer research awareness and Canadian society.
Terry Fox entered Brampton on July 24, 1980, during his Marathon of Hope. Today, the City of Brampton commemorates Terry as a symbol of hope, perseverance and community spirit, inspiring Canadians of all ages to dream big and take action for positive change.
The new memorial, titled Terry Fox: A Legacy of Hope, designed by Christiano De Araujo, features Terry Fox in the attire and shoes he wore during his run through Brampton. The base of the artwork depicts the landscapes and wildlife of Terry’s journey, with native plants and guiding animals symbolizing resilience. A circular pathway engraved with milestone markers invites visitors to explore the monument and learn more about Terry’s story.
The City of Brampton celebrates the life and impact of Terry Fox with a memorial standing as a lasting reminder of his dedication, courage and compassion. The City extends its sincere thanks to the Fox family for their support and collaboration.
