The arrests stem from an investigation that launched earlier this year, after authorities learned that a 25 year-old female victim was being trafficked within Mississauga and Toronto. Authorities conducted a search warrant at properties in both cities on Tuesday, and located a conducted energy weapon, a 9mm handgun and ammunition. The suspects, 28 year-old Phillyp Kulwartian, of Mississauga, and 23 year-old Donya Kulwartian, of Toronto, were arrested and charged on Tuesday with multiple offences. Authorities claim Phillyp controlled the victim’s life over the course of several years, while Donya arranged locations for the victim to be trafficked and receive a financial benefit. Phillyp was charged with one count each of exercising control over a sex tra
de worker, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing counterfeit documents and identity documents that belonged to the victim, while Donya was charged with possession of a restricted firearm. Both were also charged with one count of deriving a benefit from sexual services. Both suspects appeared in Brampton court Wednesday morning for a bail hearing. Investigators believe there may be more victims.
