Introduction:
The noble souls are sent to this materialistic world to achieve special missions. They come entrusted with natural powers to tackle problems and difficulties. They grow up in a simple atmosphere and practice as common folks. However, being the spiritual personalities, they are out of bound of materialistic desires and are thus outside of the gambit of understanding of general public. It is only for those people who have been blessed and in search of truth that have the sense to follow or understand them. Thus, it requires realization of sort of sixth sense to understand, describe or interpret the ‘Divine’ personality. The whole life of Sant Baba Nand Singh Jee is an exactly such a life which provided a purpose to millions of people to live in complete peace and in the vision of the eternal glory of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee through Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
Baba Nand Singh Jee was born in the early morning hours (around 3 am) of 13th Katak in Summat 1927 or in the month of November 1872 in village Sherpura near Jagraon in Punjab. The female attendants (Dais) saw an unusual glow in the dark room and came out to congratulate the blessed father S. Jai Singh Jee. Mata Sada Kaur Jee was the proud mother of Baba Nand Singh Jee.
No one knew at that time this glow is for the birth of the holy child who was going to transform the lives of thousands groping in dark by spreading amongst them the message of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee through the living Divinity, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. This holy child in the form of Sant Baba Nand Singh Jee has become the beacon light and is being worshipped by a hundred of thousands of people in different parts of the world.
At the age of just five, Baba Jee used to take bath at midnight at a well outside the village and then go into the meditation by sitting on the edge of the well in order to control the sleep. At his earlier age, Baba Jee used to work as a carpenter and told the person at whose house he was working that I will come a few hours late and that no one should disturb him at work. However, Baba Jee always used to work more than consideration and always gave extra output. He was always in meditation even at work.
Baba Nand Singh Jee left his village at the age of 20 and went to Amritsar and Roorki before proceeding to Hazur Sahib. Baba Jee undertook the selfless sewa (service without consideration) of bringing water, at Hazur Sahib, from the sacred river Godavari in the early hours of the morning for the purpose of bath of the place used for Angeetha (place to burn remains) Sahib of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee, for a number of years. He heard the divine instructions of Gurus to get full knowledge and understanding of the Sewa and Gurbani of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
Baba Nand Singh Jee left Hazur Sahib in about 1904 A.D. and went to Sant Wadhawa Singh Jee of village Lehra Gaga, who was the profound teacher of Gurbani at that time. Sant Wadhawa Singh was wonder stuck to observe the supernatural powers of Baba Jee. Baba Jee learnt everything what Sant Jee had to teach him. Sant Wadhawa Singh Jee got the intuition to take Baba Nand singh Jee to Sant Baba Harnam Singh Jee of Bhucho, who himself was a gifted soul and the famous Sant of Punjab, for further teachings. When Baba Jee reached the Dera (secluded living abode), Sant Baba Harnam Singh Jee immediately called Baba Jee in his room as he was waiting for him by addressing Baba Nand Singh Jee as ‘Rikhi Jee’.
Baba Harnam Singh Jee directed Baba Nand Singh Jee to meditate on Mool Mantar for one hundred and fifty thousand times. Baba Jee bowed his head and visited different places in West Punjab and remain absorbed in meditation for a long time. Baba Jee used to reside in secluded places during this period.
After few years, Baba Jee visited Bhucho again and this time Baba Harnam Singh Jee showered his grace and spiritual powers on him. Sant Baba Harnam Singh Jee directed Baba Jee to begin the mission of preaching Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee as Living Divinity and spread the message of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee of Universal Brotherhood. Thus Baba Jee started the institution of Nanaksar and lived all his life in complete attainment. Baba Jee used to do the Parkash (opening ceremony) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee at 2 am. Baba Nand Singh Jee used to sit not only below the level of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee but also of Ragiis (Monks) and Sangat by digging a hole in land as Baba Jee always treated himself as mere low humble Sewadar.
Baba Jee had so much contentment and belief in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee that he never asked for even a glass of water from anyone. Baba Jee has always worshipped and asked others to worship Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee as Living Divinity. He has set an example for others in doing so. It is because of his blessings that many other institutions started doing the Parkash and Sukh Aasan (closing ceremony) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee on the special beds. Baba Jee always offered the food brought by Sangat first to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee before partaking himself as Baba Jee treated Sri Guru Sahib as Living Divinity.
While at Gurdwara ‘Saragarhi’ located at Ferozepur Cantt, Sikh Sangat started spreading fame and name of Sant Baba Nand Singh Jee. Seeing all this, he quietly left the place one day and came to his village Sherpura in Jagraon sub division. He started residing near a tomb known by the name of ‘Nau Gajia’ (nine yards). Not only the people of the village but others from places far and wide started Kaleran where Gurdwara Nanaksar is located now. This was around 1918 to 1921 AD. This place was a dense jungle infested with wild animals. What to speak of the night, no body ever passed by that place. Baba Jee started living there and very soon the jungle was thronged by the ‘Sangat’. The place became lively and attractive. Baba Jee initiated the continous recital of Sri Sukhmani Sahib at Nanaksar Kalrean as recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib has immense power to burn all sins of any human being and showers any one with lot of blessings to live a merry and content life. He has also initiated the Kirtan (recitation of holy hymns the Supreme Being with the playing of musical instruments) at Nanaksar Kaleran. Kirtan is performed in the early hours of the morning and also in the evening. He was always directing people to worship Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee as Living Divinity to relieve themselves of miserable diseases, poverty and distress. Nanaksar was turned into Bhagati Da Ghar (abode of meditation of Supreme Being) away from all worldly desires. Baba Jee did not permit to convert Nanaksar near Kaleran into cemented Gurdwara during his lifetime. Baba Jee owned nothing and depended on nothing in this world. He has devoted all his life in full contentment and in physical realization of Satguru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee.
Everyone who make a religious visit to Nanaksar is asked to partake Amrit (get baptized as per the orders of 10th Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee), read and employ Gurbani in his life by living happily in the Guru’s desires and to worship Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee as Living Guru Nanak as per the instructions of Sant Baba Nand Singh Jee.
