BRAMPTON: The City of Brampton’s Youth Hub is now open at the Susan Fennell Sportsplex.

The Youth Hub at the Susan Fennell Sportsplex offers a safe and inclusive space for young people to access programming and supports, all while building meaningful friendships and connections.

The dedicated space includes a variety of unstructured spaces to allow youth to freely socialize and connect. Other amenities include an eSports area, sponsored by Sheridan College, a creative space, ideation rooms, and a lounge area.

This space will add to the growing amenities available for young people within the City of Brampton, creating safe, inclusive and supportive communities. This Youth Hub at the Susan Fennell Sportsplex is a true collaborative effort, with investments made by federal, provincial and regional partners.

To make sure the Youth Hub was created to serve the needs of youth, the City of Brampton launched an extensive consultation with youth and youth service providers to obtain input on how to design and program these spaces.

The City’s second youth hub located at Century Gardens Recreation Centre is currently in design with construction anticipated to begin this summer.

Mayor Patrick Brown, said, “The Youth Hub will serve as a safe space where young people can make new friends, find a new hobby and unwind. This is one way we’re creating a caring community that supports residents at every stage of life. We thank all the partners in making this innovative space a reality and look forward to all that will be accomplished here, the connections that will be made and the incredibly bright futures of all the youth in our phenomenal City.”

While Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor, Wards 1 and 5 said, “We are striving to support youth in our community, setting them up for success by offering spaces and places where they can learn, grow and thrive. This space is a testament to what we can accomplish by working together for the greater good of our community and the people we serve. I am so thrilled to see this come to fruition and look forward to working together again to create more important spaces like this in our City.”

And Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities said, “The new Youth Hub at Susan Fennell Sportsplex is a facility that will help to inspire, support, and empower the next generation of leaders in our community. Our federal government continues to invest in Brampton’s infrastructure that our residents rely on and we remain committed to supporting projects that bring Canadians together. The Youth Hub is a perfect example of that commitment in action. I am thrilled to see this project come to fruition and look forward to the positive impact it will have in Brampton South.”

While Kinga Surma, Ontario Minister of Infrastructure said, “We know how important it is for youth to have the supports and tools they need to help them navigate and grow through these defining years in their lives. That is why we are working with our federal and municipal partners to build infrastructure that supports local communities across the province, including the new youth hub at the Susan Fennell Sportsplex. This hub will provide a safe, inclusive space for youth to access programming and amenities where they can express themselves freely and connect with each other and the community.”

And Janet Morrison, President and Vice Chancellor, Sheridan College said, “As a world-renowned leader in digital media and animation, Sheridan is thrilled to support the City of Brampton with this new youth hub. Every one of our game design students started with a passion for video games and it’s an honour to support and fuel the next generation of creators, while providing a safe, inclusive space for young people to make friends and access other programs and supports.”
