King Charles

King Charles III, 75, has been diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace announced on Monday.

The palace stated in an emailed statement that a separate issue of concern was noted during The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement. “After further diagnostic tests, a type of cancer has been detected.”

The statement failed to mention the stage at which the cancer was detected.

In a separate statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles did not have prostate cancer.

Last week, both Kate and King Charles were released from a private London clinic following their medical procedures. The king had a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate, while Kate, 42, had unspecified abdominal surgery on Jan. 17.

The statement mentioned that His Majesty had started a regular treatment schedule and would be deferring his public-facing responsibilities in accordance with medical advice.

The statement explains that the king chose to disclose his diagnosis in order to prevent any speculation about his condition. Additionally, he expressed his desire to contribute to the public’s understanding of cancer, with the hope of supporting those who are affected by it worldwide.

According to Buckingham Palace, Charles expressed his gratitude for the prompt intervention of his medical team and their exceptional care.

The palace spokesperson stated that no additional information regarding his treatment or prognosis would be disclosed. However, it was mentioned that the king has returned to London to commence out-patient treatment.

Charles took the throne in May through a coronation ceremony that occurred several months after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth ruled until her passing at the age of 96 in September 2022. She held the title of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, ruling for an impressive 70 years.

Kate is currently in recovery, while her husband, Prince William, will be resuming his royal duties by attending London’s Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner on Wednesday.

Kensington Palace has stated that the Princess of Wales is not expected to resume her royal duties until after Easter, specifically on March 31. The king’s return to duties was not specified with a date.

Buckingham Palace has acknowledged that several of the king’s scheduled engagements will need to be postponed or canceled. They express their apologies in advance to anyone who may be inconvenienced as a result. Queen Camilla will continue with her full public duties as Charles undergoes treatment.
