Jackline Keji Gore was an outstanding 24-year-old woman. She was a talented basketball player who earned herself a coveted University scholarship. Just as she was entering the prime of her life, she was shot and killed in a parking lot in front of a Mississauga bar.
In the early morning hours on Monday, July 8, 2019, Jackline was killed on the street in a violent shooting incident near Torbram Road and Drew Road. Jackline was an innocent person who was enjoying a night out with friends when her life was tragically taken away in a brazen and deplorable act of senseless violence.
“The tragic loss of this innocent woman’s life is devastating. Violence within our community should be a concern for us all. The Region of Peel remains a safe place to live and work and I want to assure the community that Peel Regional Police are committed to the safety of the residents of Peel.” said Chief Chris McCord.
Jackline was a cherished daughter, sister, beloved friend, and hard working student. While studying Psychology first at York University, she then returned to her hometown of London Ontario, to study at Western University. Jackline kept busy working as a phone specialist at a local bank and as a part time server at a restaurant.
The nightmare of that moment has had a ripple affect throughout the entire community. Jackline’s parents are now without a daughter, her sibling is now without a sister and her friends will no longer be sharing their time and making memories. Jackline will be missed.
“As times and generations change, these senseless acts continue to plague our communities. Jackline was an innocent victim who didn’t deserve to be taken the way she was, from her family, friends and community that loved her,” said a spokesperson for the family.
Community safety and addressing gun violence are top priorities for Peel Regional Police. Our officers have been working tirelessly at taking guns off our streets. Last year a total of 459 firearms were seized through various investigations and initiatives created for combatting gun crime like Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Policing Program (STEP) and the use of our annual voluntary gun amnesty program saw 129 guns handed in.
Since January of this year, Peel Regional Police have seized 221 firearms. We must stress that we can’t do this alone. We depend on you, the community as our eyes and ears, for your help. Your confidence and willingness to report crime and work with our police investigators is key.

Peel Residents Turn In 129 Guns To Police
Peel Region – The numbers are in and we are pleased to report Peel Residents turned in 129 guns and 269 pounds of ammunition during the 2019 Spring Gun Amnesty Program. In 2018, residents turned in 34 guns and 80 pounds of ammunition. This year we see an increase of 380%.
“Removing unwanted firearms from circulation ensures they will not get into the wrong hands and be used in criminal activity. I would like to thank the residents of the Region of Peel for their cooperation and participation in this program. Their support enables our vision of A Safer Community Together,” said Chief Chris McCord.
The 2019 Gun Amnesty ran through the month of May and offered an opportunity for members of the community to safely and voluntarily surrender weapons and ammunition. The Amnesty period allowed community members to turn in both unwanted legal firearms, and guns that would potentially be considered illegal, without the risk of criminal charges that might have otherwise applied. There was however no amnesty offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime and no anonymous submissions were accepted.
2019 Gun Amnesty Program Results:
• A total of 52 homes were visited during the amnesty.
• A total of 129 firearms and x edged weapons were turned in by Region of Peel residents.
• A total of 269 pounds of ammunition was also turned in during the program.
The guns seized in the amnesty are in addition to the 121 guns Peel Regional Police officers already seized this year.
Peel’s Gun Amnesty Program started in 2015, the aim was to have residents voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition. There are no discernible trends resulting from past years and all efforts have enhanced public safety.
