Baker takes the helm as Region’s new CAO

Mississauga’s former City Manager, Janice Baker, has been tapped to take on the role of Chief Administrative Officer at the Region of Peel. The move, announced last week, sees Baker, a 30-year vet in the municipal scene, take on a key role overseeing policy and administration within regional government, which represents the municipalities of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.

The search took 13 months, launched after former CAO David Szwarc retired last summer, and was decided on during an incamera regional council session on Sep. 24. “On behalf of Regional Council, I welcome Janice to the Regional team. She is an experienced and innovative leader, who has worked passionately in the community for many years,” said Regional Chair Nando Iannicca last week.
