Ottawa, Feb 2 :The Conservative Party of Canada has elected Candice Bergen as its interim leader in a private vote on Wednesday evening.
The decision was taken after a vote by 73 party MPs to oust Erin O’Toole from the party’s leadership. After O’Toole was ousted as Conservative Party leader, many people offered their names to become the party’s interim leader.
Conservative MP Marilyn Gladdu from Sarnia-Lambton, MP John Williamson from New Brunswick Southwest, and Rob Moore, MP from New Brunswick’s Fundy Royal constituency, also offered their names to be interim leaders. No interest was shown in the federal leadership.
Former Interim Leader Rona Ambrose has said she is not ready to run again as a leader. Earlier this week, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said they had no interest in federal leadership and wanted to focus on their respective provinces.
