Eat a Doughnut for Charity? Yes Please!

Eat a Doughnut for Charity? Yes Please!

It’s often said that police officers are fans of doughnuts and while it’s generally a stereotype, if purchasing and eating a doughnut means we are supporting Special Olympics Canada, then we’re HUGE fans!

Tori Ranson, an athlete with Special Olympics Ontario, has not only been named a most valuable player on her basketball team but has shown that she is a most valuable champion for inclusion as well.

In support of Global Day of Inclusion on July 20, Tori created a special doughnut that Tim Horton’s has chosen to be this year’s Special Olympics doughnut. These doughnuts will be sold at participating Tim Horton’s restaurants on July 20 with all proceeds going to support Special Olympics Canada.

For those of you, who like us are eager to know, the doughnut is a honey cruller with whipped topping through the centre, dipped in vanilla icing and topped with red sprinkles. Delightful wouldn’t you say?

Tori’s sister Sydney, who is a Peel Regional Police officer, has been involved with Special Olympics for a long time and continues to volunteer her time as an officer.

“Tori and I are very close. Growing up, we were both involved in sports and I even had the opportunity to coach a few of her teams. Those moments let me see and learn that someone with a disability is just as capable as you and I. I am beyond proud of Tori and all that she has accomplished, including designing this amazing doughnut that will be sold across Canada, and can’t wait to share in all of her future accomplishments. I know there will be many!” said Sydney.

Having been involved in multiple charity events such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run as well as hosting the 2017 Ontario Provincial Summer Games, we’ve had a significant partnership with Special Olympics Ontario and has supported athletes for quite some time. In fact, Special Olympics is recognized as the charity of choice for the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

This Global Day of Inclusion, we encourage everyone to join us and support Special Olympics Canada by visiting their local Tim Hortons to enjoy a Special Olympic Doughnut and to always #ChooseToInclude.
