BRAMPTON, ON – Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, is excited to announce the launch of a yearly charity event that will support healthcare in the City of Brampton. Hockey Night in Brampton will take place on August 22nd at 7:00 PM at the CAA Centre. The game will include a star-studded lineup of NHL All-Stars, as well as Hall of Fame Alumni.
Hockey Night in Brampton is proudly supporting the Cardiology Program at Brampton Civic Hospital, through William Osler Health System Foundation. William Osler Health System serves a growing area with a demographic that is at a greater than average risk of serious heart disease. This combination places incredible demand on Osler’s cardiology services. This year’s game will feature a headlining lineup of locally-grown and locally-trained talent.
Team Monahan will be captained by Brampton-born star of the Calgary Flames, Sean Monahan, and will be named after the local star. Monahan is coming off of a breakout season where he tallied 34 goals and 48 assists for a total of 82 points in 78 games. Monahan has spent his entire 6 season career with the Calgary Flames where he has notched 172 goals and 363 total points. Brampton-native, Sean Monahan and 2019 Norris Trophy winner Mark Girodano will both be joining the 2019 Hockey Night in Brampton roster.
Joining Monahan on the Hockey Night in Brampton roster will be star Calgary Flames defenseman, Mark Giordano. Giordano, who spends the summers training in Brampton with world-renowned trainer, Brad Wheeler, is the 2019 winner of The James Norris Memorial Trophy for the leagues best defenseman. Like his teammate, Giordano is also coming off of a breakout season where he tallied 17 goals and 57 assists for a total of 74 points in 78 games.
In addition to the star Calgary Flames duo, Hockey Night in Brampton will also include Nick Ritchie of the Anaheim Ducks, and Brett Ritchie of the Dallas Stars. Nick Ritchie is coming off of a season with the Anaheim Ducks where he earned a career high in assists, (22) and in points (31). Ritchie spends the off-season training in the City of Brampton. Brett Ritchie, who also spends the off-season training in Brampton, has spent the past five seasons with the Dallas Stars, and will be joining the Boston Bruins for the 2019-2020 season. Together the Ritchie brothers have combined for 68 goals and 144 points.
Hockey Night in Brampton’s goaltenders will also showcase the world-class athletes to come out of the City of Brampton. Brampton-born talent, Scott Wedgewood will be joining the game’s roster as one of the event’s goaltenders. Wedgewood, who recently signed a one year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, has posted a NHL save percentage of 0.903% and has two career NHL Shutouts.
In addition to the Local and All-Star NHL talent on the ice, Hockey Night in Brampton will also feature successful NHL coaches behind the benches. Joining Hockey Night in Brampton as one of the team’s coaches is coaching legend Mike Keenan. Over the span of 2 decades Keenan coached over 1300 games at the NHL level where he led his teams to 672 wins and one Stanley Cup.
