On Tuesday, the Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch and five-time Punjab chief minister passed away in a private hospital in Mohali. He was 95.

Badal was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Fortis Hospital in Mohali last week after complaining of respiratory difficulties a week prior.

Parkash Singh Badal, a remarkable statesman who made significant contributions to our nation, laboured assiduously for the progress of Punjab, said Prime Minister Modi.

Extremely grieved by the demise of former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal; he was a titan in Indian politics.

In the meantime, the President of India tweeted that Shri Parkash Singh Badal was one of the most prominent political figures since independence. His exemplary public service career was primarily confined to Punjab, but he was respected throughout the nation. His demise leaves a vacuum. My deepest condolences go out to his loved ones and admirers.

Multiple times, Parkash Singh Badal served as the Chief Minister of Punjab. He served as the CM from 1970 to 1971, 1977 to 1980, 1997 to 2002, and 2007 to 2017.

In addition, he was the youngest ever Chief Minister of the state of Punjab.
