Brampton, June 23 – The City of Brampton is excited to offer live music, theatrical entertainment and culture for all to enjoy this summer both in Garden Square and at The Rose Brampton.

Performing Arts Brampton is hosting the following shows:

Tales of an Urban Indian
June 24 and 25, 2 pm and 8 pm

Join us on the incredible journey of Simon Douglas in Tales of an Urban Indian. Written by Darrell Dennis, this innovative one-man show tells the story of an Indigenous man who grew up on both the reserve of Northern British Columbia and in the City of Vancouver. Set on a moving Brampton Transit bus, the audience will be immersed in Simon’s story of survival and hope. Playing over 40 characters, audiences see the world through Simon’s eyes. Celebrating more than 500 performances, this semi-autobiographical play takes the audience on a quest for belonging, identity and acceptance.

Brampton’s Own Shakespeare Show – Much Ado About Nothing
Thursdays at Chinguacousy Park: July 28, August 4 and 11, 7:30 pm
Fridays at Mount Pleasant Square: July 29, August 5 and 12, 7:30 pm
Saturdays at Ken Whillans Square: July 30, August 6 and 13, 7:30 pm

Presented by Louie the Goat Productions and Performing Arts Brampton, audiences of all ages will enjoy this fan favorite comedy where terrible things almost happen. As the city of Messina prepares for the wedding of Hero and Claudio, the Prince’s men and Leonato’s family attempt to play Cupid by making long-time rivals Beatrice and Benedick fall in love. All the while, the Prince’s brother conspires to ruin it all. Performing in three outdoor Brampton venues and featuring a cast of local actors, this production showcases Brampton’s Mosaic. Grab a chair or blanket and head over to laugh and cry at this classic, family-friendly comedy.

8th Annual East Coast Kitchen Party

July 9, 2 to 8 pm

Calling all Maritimers and Mainlanders – and those who are just plain curious – indulge in the culture of the East Coast at the East Coast Kitchen Party, sponsored by Toronto Pearson, TD, No Frills and Tim Hortons.

Join host Rebecca Perry with performances by Old Man Flannigan’s Ghost, DnA and The Rowdymen.

Stomp ‘N Stampede
August 13, 4 to 8 pm

Grab your cowboy hat and boots and maybe a dancing partner too! This summer, Stomp N’ Stampede returns to Garden Square to celebrate all things country! Enjoy DJ Johnny Rivex spinning live, and don’t miss line dancing lessons from the Double Trouble line dancers. Full line up of performers coming soon!

  • John Street Parking Garage, 16 John Street
  • City Hall Parking Garage, 2 Wellington Street West
  • West Tower Parking Garage, 41 George Street

Quotes

“Performing Arts Brampton has an outstanding lineup of live music, theatre and cultural experiences planned this summer! Whether you’re looking to take in some Shakespeare, enjoy a show on a Brampton Transit bus or attend a party with fellow Bramptonians, there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

– Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton

“Brampton is a Mosaic, and our unique cultural experiences contribute so much to our vibrant city. Performing Arts Brampton has put together an exciting season of diverse shows and events for residents and visitors to enjoy. I encourage everyone to mark their calendars and join us throughout the summer!”

“July is a festive month, especially in Brampton! Performing Arts invites you to join the Newfoundland fun at the East Coast Kitchen Party, and to kick your Western heels up at Stomp N’ Stampede. They’re both don’t-miss-events held every summer in Garden Square. If you like your humour with a dash of romance, head over to one of three Brampton parks for Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, presented by a passionate troupe of Brampton actors. And don’t forget Carabram!  Brampton, it’s July – let us Fest!”

– Steven Schipper, Executive Artistic Director, Performing Arts, City of Brampton
