Suspect arrested after child fatally hit in Mississauga crash

A 25 year-old Brampton man has been charged in connection with the death of a toddler in a Mississauga parking lot last month. The arrest was made in connection with the Aug. 12 incident, in which 19 month-old Majeed Chitou was struck by a vehicle being driven by the suspect in the Confederation Parkway and Paisley Boulevard area. It is believed a delivery truck was involved in the incident, which took place in a parking lot around 5:30 p.m.

The suspect transported both Chitou and his mother to a nearby hospital. Chitou succumbed to his wounds a short time later. “He is full of life, he is everywhere in the house, he is the life of the house – all until yesterday,” Chitou’s mother, Rukayat Ajao, told CTV News Toronto the day after the incident. According to police, the suspect, Arshdeep Oathi, was driving the vehicle out of the parking lot when Chitou was hit. Oathi was arrested Monday and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He is expected in court on Nov. 16 to answer to the charges. Police say anyone with additional information regarding the crash is asked to call the Major Collision Bureau at (905) 453-2121, ext. 3710. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Ajao and her family, and can be accessed by visiting the fundraiser page at gofundme.com/f/funeral-arrangements-andsupport-for-madjid-chito u.
