BRAMPTON, ON (April 4, 2024)—The City of Brampton is gearing up to roll out the red carpet to celebrate National Canadian Film Day with two special events on April 17 and April 18, 2024. Visitors and locals alike are welcome to enjoy the various cinematic works produced by people with ties to Brampton.

National Canadian Film Day is an opportunity to reflect on the diverse stories, talent and creativity shaping Canada’s cinematic landscape. Brampton creatives such as Vinay Virmani, David Phillips and Sarah Leigh Henry have played an integral role in contributing to the Canadian film industry, achieving both national and international accolades. In addition to attending one of the special events, residents are encouraged to enjoy a film made by a filmmaker with connections to Brampton. Visit brampton.ca/ncfd for a list of the films made by local creatives that will be featured at this year’s National Canadian Film Day events.

The City of Brampton is committed to creating spaces and opportunities for local creatives to grow, explore their talent and succeed. As the City commemorates National Canadian Film Day, Brampton is renewing its commitment to supporting arts and culture by meeting the needs of this sector through opportunities such as showcases, film screenings, networking opportunities and workshops.

Save the dates | Celebrate National Canadian Film Day in Brampton  

Celebrate the induction of Filmmaker Vinay Virmani into Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame 

The City of Brampton is celebrating Vinay Virmani’s induction into Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame on National Canadian Film Day with a movie screening event. This event, in partnership with REEL Canada and hosted by filmmaker Kelly Fyffe-Marshall, will allow attendees to experience the magic of filmmaking and diverse cultural stories. Individuals will have an opportunity to watch the film ‘Breakaway,’ which stars Vinay Virmani, and participate in a Q&A discussion with the cast and crew of the film.  

Vinay Virmani is one of Brampton’s Arts Walk of Fame inductees for 2024. He is a dynamic, award-winning filmmaker hailing from Brampton. With a diverse portfolio spanning acting, producing and writing, Vinay has solidified himself as a multifaceted and dedicated creative and producer. His belief in diverse storytelling, equity and inclusion for the future of film drives his professional endeavours. This passion led him to found First Take Entertainment, through which Virmani aims to connect global audiences with captivating narratives transcending cultural barriers. Vinay also serves as Partner and Chief Content Officer at Uninterrupted Canada, the first global expansion of Lebron James and Maverick Carter’s athlete empowerment platform, which aims to empower athletes and filmmakers across the country.

Brampton Arts Organization’s Third Annual Film Screening & Networking Night

Celebrate National Canadian Film Day with a special showcase of the talent living in Brampton. Ten films and videos created by Brampton’s local filmmakers will be screened with an opportunity to receive feedback and share ideas from fellow creators and industry talent.

This free public screening is for anyone in Brampton who works in film, video, video arts, content creation or any other adjacent creative fields or loves film and is interested in discovering all the up-and-coming filmmakers from Brampton. After the screening, attendees are invited to join all the filmmakers and invited guests from BIPOC TV and Film and Reel Asian for networking and socializing at a reception.

Time: 7 pm – a reception will follow the film screenings

Reception location: Montana’s BBQ & Bar, 170 Great Lakes Dr, Brampton, ON L6R 2K7
