MISSISSAUGA, ON March 26, 2024 – Truck World 2024, Canada’s largest trucking trade show will be honouring the contributions of the South Asia community to Canada’s trucking industry. This year’s event will feature a historical exhibition, a special reception, networking opportunities and more.

“We are thrilled to recognize and honour the invaluable contributions of the South Asian community to the trucking industry,” said Thierry Quagliata, Show Manager at Newcom. “This year’s show will underscore and highlight our appreciation of the multicultural tapestry that enriches the trucking industry.”

Taking place at The International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, Truck World 2024 will run from Thursday April 18 to Saturday April 20. It will feature over 450+ exhibitors across 390,000 square feet. It is the premier gathering for all aspects of the trucking industry, showcasing equipment, innovations, connections, and solutions.

“Truck drivers are everyday heroes who work tirelessly to deliver the goods and services people across the province rely on each day,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “That’s why, under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government will always stand with this critical industry and its workers.”

“Brampton is a major Transportation Hub with decades of experience as a leader in goods movement,” said Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton.  “ Brampton is home to more than 11,000 companies employing more than 24,000 people in the trucking and logistics sector.”

FACTS:

●        The Canadian trucking industry is a major contributor to the country’s economy, generating over $65 billion in revenue annually and accounting for approximately 3.5% of Canada’s GDP. It employs more than 300,000 drivers across 10,000 companies and transports over 80% of all US-Canada trade (by value).

●        Almost one in five (17.8 per cent) of Canada’s truck drivers have South Asian backgrounds. In cities such as Toronto and Vancouver, they account for more than half of drivers.

●        South Asian migration to Canada began in the early 1900s with approximately 5,000 South Asian immigrants, primarily from Punjab, India. Many immigrants found work in industries like logging, mining, and agriculture, laying the foundation for future generations in transportation.
