MISSISSAUGA, ON April 16, 2024 – Truck World 2024, Canada’s largest trucking trade show will be honouring the contributions of the South Asia community to Canada’s trucking industry. This year’s event will feature a historical exhibition, a special reception, networking opportunities and more.
Taking place at The International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, Truck World 2024 will run from Thursday April 18 to Saturday April 20. ● The Canadian trucking industry is a major contributor to the country’s economy, generating over $65 billion in revenue annually and accounting for approximately 3.5% of Canada’s GDP. It employs more than 300,000 drivers across 10,000 companies and transports over 80% of all US-Canada trade (by value).
● Almost one in five (17.8 per cent) of Canada’s truck drivers have South Asian backgrounds. In cities such as Toronto and Vancouver, they account for more than half of drivers.
● South Asian migration to Canada began in the early 1900s with approximately 5,000 South Asian immigrants, primarily from Punjab, India. Many immigrants found work in industries like logging, mining, and agriculture, laying the foundation for future generations in transportation.
