A noted Brampton runner will be taking part in one of the biggest distance races of the year.
According to information received from Toronto Pearson Airport Running (TPAR) Club Chairperson Sandhura Singh Brar earlier this week, the club’s founding member Dhyan Singh Sohal will be participating in the 125th annual Boston Marathon on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021.
The 65-year-old runner received an invitation via e- mail from the organizers of the race to take part in the world-famous event, which will take place in-person this fall due to efforts to vaccinate residents in the U.S. Brar said it was “a matter of great pride for his club” that a member had been selected to take part in the world-class race, and that 8-10 members of the club would accompany Sohal to Boston to encourage him.
It is worth mentioning here that Sohal, who pledged his commitment to run in the 42-kilometre race earlier this month, participated in the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon held in downtown Toronto in Oct. 2019.
In that marathon, he covered a distance of 42 kilometres in three hours, 48 minutes and 21 seconds, qualifying him for the Boston Marathon. He was scheduled to run the 125th Boston Marathon in Aug. 2020, but the race was canceled, including all public events, due to the rapidly spreading COVID-19 epidemic in the United States in those days. “All the members of TPAR Club congratulate Dhyan Singh Sohal for this selection, and best wishes for his good performance in this prestigious race,” said Brar.
