BRAMPTON, ON (June 29, 2020) – In addition to Brampton’s online Canada Day programming at www.brampton.ca/canadaday, Mayor Patrick Brown and Councillors are taking Brampton’s Canada Day celebrations on the road! Members of Council will bring live music, food trucks, and free cookies from local bakeries to each ward pairing on July 1.

These in-person festivities will take place outdoors in Brampton recreation centre parking lots. Residents are asked to drive and remain in their vehicles to prevent the spread of COVID-19. From their vehicles, residents can enjoy live music and purchase food through a drive-thru food truck process. Mayor and Ward Councillors will deliver free cookies to vehicles, while supplies last, wearing masks and gloves.

Visit Century Gardens Recreation Centre at 340 Vodden Street East where you will find Mayor Brown with Councillors Rowena Santos and Paul Vicente! Enjoy live music from The Jazz Mechanics, purchase food from The Mighty Cob, and snack on a free cookie from local bakery OccaSSions.

11 to 11:45 AM: Wards 1 & 5

12 to 12:45 PM: Wards 2 & 6

Visit Cassie Campbell Community Centre at 1050 Sandalwood Parkway West to enjoy live music from Ablett and Cooper, purchase food from The Mighty Cob, and snack on a free cookie from local Grand Bakers. Mayor Brown and Councillors Michael Palleschi and Doug Whillans will be delivering cookies right to your vehicle.

1 to 1:45 PM: Wards 3 & 4

Visit Memorial Arena at 69 Elliott Street to enjoy live music from the Brampton Folk Club, purchase food from Jamie’s Cracked Corn, and snack on a free cookie from local Cristina’s Tortina Shop, delivered to your vehicle by Mayor Brown and Councillors Jeff Bowman and Martin Medeiros.

2 to 2:45 PM: Wards 7 & 8

Visit Greenbriar Recreation Centre at 1100 Central Park Drive to enjoy live music from Celtic Band Erin’s Marlore, purchase food from The Mighty Cob, and snack on a free cookie from local Cakes by Emily K. Mayor Brown and Councillors Pat Fortini and Charmaine Williams will be in attendance.

3 to 3:45 PM: Wards 9 & 10

Visit Gore Meadows Community Centre at 10150 The Gore Road to enjoy live music from Bagga Singh, purchase food from The Mighty Cob, and snack on a free cookie from local bakeries Lacoste Bakery and Cookies by Design. Here, Councillors Gurpreet Dhillon and Harkirat Singh will join Mayor Brown.

COVID-19 Safety Measures

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, physical distancing measures will be in effect, and residents are asked to remain in their vehicles for a drive-thru Canada Day experience. The City urges attendees to wear a mask and carry personal disinfectant, such as hand sanitizer or wipes.

Celebrate Canada Day – online!

To help Bramptonians celebrate Canada Day from their homes, the City is taking the celebration online at www.brampton.ca/canadaday. From noon to 10 PM on July 1, residents can enjoy family-friendly activities, virtual fireworks, performances from the family favourite and JUNO award-winning Splash’N Boots, local artists, JUNO award-winning headliner Walk Off The Earth, and more.

For more information, visit www.brampton.ca/canadaday.

Quotes

“Canada Day is Brampton’s biggest event and while we cannot host an in person celebration at Chinguacousy Park this year, we have created a way to celebrate Canada Day in person with COVID-19 safety measures top of mind. Come say hello on July 1, then head home to celebrate online!”

– Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton

“We are very excited to meet residents in a safe and healthy way to celebrate Canada Day together. I encourage everyone to wear a mask, practice good hygiene and physical distancing, and join us in person for food, music, and fun. Then, enjoy performances and fireworks online at www.brampton.ca/canadaday.”

– Gurpreet Dhillon, Regional Councillor, Wards 9 & 10, City of Brampton; Chair, Economic Development and Culture

“As we work to reopen the city safely and our community joins together in celebrating Canada’s birthday, I encourage everyone to take part in the festivities and celebrate as safely as possible by keeping their distance and enjoying the live entertainment across Brampton.”

– Martin Medeiros, Regional Councillor Wards 3 & 4; Lead, Reopening and Recovery Working Group, City of Brampton

“From meeting the Mayor and your Councillors, to live entertainment, to online performances, family friendly activities and fireworks, there are healthy and safe ways for everyone to celebrate this Canada Day. Please stay safe, practise physical distancing, and end the night online from your home.”

– David Barrick, Chief Administrative Officer, City of Brampton
